Quasi

Portland, OR

RIYL: Pavement, Superchunk, Modest Mouse, Sebadoh and Built to Spill

Quasi’s forthcoming album on Kill Rock Stars, American Gong, will drop on February 23rd. This is the first release since the 2006's critically acclaimed When The Going Gets Dark, and the band's eighth full-length album. Quasi features Sam Coomes, Joanna Bolme and Janet Weiss, drummer for legendary act Sleater-Kinney. Both Bolme and Weiss are also members Stephen Malkmus' band known as the Jicks. KEXP’s Brian Cullen says, “American Gong feels like a freshly awakened bear at the business end of a long slumber. Hungry.”

"When The Going Gets Dark is a model of aging, raging indie idealism." 4 stars - Blender

"When The Going Gets Dark... is Infectiously noisy." 5/5 - Alternative Press

"When The Going Gets Dark... the sound is extreme jazz-punk, with chaotic keyboards, violent drums and discordant vocals. It's moody and loud, but focused and inspirational." 4/5 - The Guardian

"Quasi... grittier, bluesier, and tighter than ever, and they're absolutely fantastic." 4 stars - All Music Guide

Queen Anne's Revenge

Queen Anne's Revenge is one of Tucson's newest acts. Featuring a member of the Deludes and The Beta Sweat, QAR will remind fans of PJ Harvey, Blonde Redhead, Gene Loves Jezebel and the Cure.

RIYL: The Toadies, Eisley, Death Cab For Cutie

Quincy

Quincy is one of Tucson's most promising new acts. Recent transplants from Portland OR, one of the hippest music scenes in the country, this act will remind you of Wilco, Iron & Wine, a rootsy-meloncholy Sebadoh, or an indie-tinged 16 Horsepower w/ a bit of a Nick Drake influence.

Quintron & Miss Pussycat

New Orleans, LA

"Mr. Quintron...plays music on a custom made Hammond/Rhodes combo synthesizer/organ (which he's got all built up to look like a car with real working headlights) backed by raw simple drum machine beats (think 808 boom chika boom through one BIG speaker with all the treble turned down) and his own patented invention THE DRUM BUDDY - a rotating, light-activated analog synthesizer which is played much in the same way that a DJ spins and scratches records. Of course lets not forget about Miss Pussycat who plays maracas and sings backup as well as entertaining...with her highly amusing technicolor puppet shows. The Quintron/Miss Pussycat experience is one of barely controlled electronic chaos, "Swamp-Tech" beats, small explosions, incredible clothes, and entertaining puppet stories... This act somehow has equal relevance in sleazy nightclubs, pizza restaurants, and university lecture halls." - The Miami Herald

"Imagine Rick James pulling Dr. John off a riverboat, shoving a host of pills and brown liquor down his gullet and forcing him to play hoodoo-voodoo disco-clash until the sun rises over the bayou." - Splendid Reviews

"Swamp Tech is a joyous affair of grime dance minimalism. Along with Miss Pussycat, Quintron churns out kick-ass grooves that are something like the crunk of the underground rock 'n' soul scene. Natives of the Big Easy at the time of the album's recording, they really succeed at transposing the raw, enchanting feeling of the southeastern United States. It's alternately gaudy and sinister, and entirely infectious. Quintron, the baddest one-man band in America, is sure to move your ass and make you laugh." - Pop Matters

Qwel and Maker

Chicago, IL

Genre: Hip Hop

Qwel (of Typical Cats) & Maker (of Glue) creative partnership has gone from ‘occcasional collaboration’ to a full-fledged endeavor and the results are loud, clear, and undeniable. Once described by Rolling Stone as having “stark, biographical songs that occupy the same bleak terrain as Francis Bacon paintings or The Dark Knight,” the Chicago-based duo has matured substantially since the release of their 2009 sophomore album, So Be It, and continually raise the bar with their brand of raw, unadulterated, underground Hip-Hop.
