Lucero

"Women & Work is the sound of a mature, confident band, fully embracing their hometown's musical legacy, and wrapping it inside their own sound, making each both larger and deeper. All killer, no filler." 4 stars - All Music Guide "Women & Work... Lucero's tightest, most focused album yet" - Billboard "Getting down to brass tacks Women & Work is essential listening, but you knew that already. What makes this such a great album is its depth. It’s not just Memphis soul, although the influence is clear throughout. It’s not just another Lucero album even though it very much is. It’s not just the soundtrack to an amazing night out, but is just that. It’s not just proof that Lucero has held their own for nine albums and fourteen years. It’s all of that and more. You know, thinking about this, I could have just said, 'This is a Lucero album,' and it would have covered all of that." - Nine Bullets "These songs cut deeper than anything else in the band's extensive catalog" - JamBase "With their latest studio record, Women & Work, the alt-country rockers known as Lucero have managed to harness fully the music of their hometown to make their most Memphis-sounding record yet." - KDHX "Trying to synthesize the disparate sounds of a city that has yielded so many music gifts seems like a fool's errand, but this Memphis septet pulls it off, sounding fresh and not too retro." - USA Today "Lucero... rowdy, old-fashioned barroom boogie rock." - Rolling Stone

The Highway Companion formed in 2008. They write honest country-tinged songs. They like beer and booze and BBQ. They don't care about what's cool or what's not. They just get together and write songs they'd like to hear when we're floatin' or drinkin' or smoking' or hanging out.

Nappy Roots

"Nappy Roots haven’t retained the mainstream relevancy they first realized with 2002’s Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz and the 'Awnaw' and 'Po’ Folks' singles it spawned in the near decade since. In that time, though, the five-man Kentucky-based group has continued to churn out solid soul-drenched countrified offerings and again do so with their latest opus, Nappy Dot Org... the crew supplies plenty of impassioned and relatable raps that reaffirm that past talents still connect today." 4/5 - XXL "Nappy Dot Org, the group’s 5th studio release, proves that Nappy Roots still has no problems going against the grain... In true Nappy form, the album is a refreshing break from the swag-centric current state of hip-hop." - This Beat Goes "Nappy Dot Org is another fine chapter in the Nappy Roots story that leaves you wishing a little more of the commercial southern shine could be directed the underrated group's way." 4/5 - HipHop DX "Nappy Dot Org is another essential listen from one of rap's most distinct and charismatic groups." - Rap Reviews "By far one of the most underrated Hip-Hop acts to have emerged over the past few years, (Nappy Roots) accomplishments and the milestones they’ve reached are the stuff of often-referenced Hip-Hop legacies. But theirs remains a legacy that isn’t celebrated nearly as much as it should be… at least not by the 'industry.' " - Hot Zone

Scrub is a unique voice in a world of homogeny. His energetic delivery and blazing stage show have taken him from the grimiest clubs in St. Louis to the massive clubs of Hollywood. Often joined onstage by a vintage Rhodes or full band, Scrub continues to defy any one particular genre. His music is both thought-provoking and dance worthy.

Webster's Dictionary defines doorway as "as means of access: a doorway to success." It is no coincidence that this also refers to the hip-hop collective comprised of Nick "WhiteOut" Menn, D.J. "L-Gifted" Hendricks, Ramel "RT-FaQ" Prince, Virgil "Veo" Patterson, and Charles "SD The Dizzleman" Crape. A doorway is never a destination it is always a conduit - a journey, if you will. This is the concept understood and embraced by the Doorway collective, providing not only a moniker, but the guiding vision and direction Doorway.

The Great American Desert

The calm, quiet life of a small Midwestern town moved Max Holmquist to pick up a guitar at the age of 15 and the introduction of alt-folk music shifted his tastes toward a love of storytelling. He used this small town as the backdrop and inspiration for downbeat, minimalist folk tales of family, heartbreak and loss called The Great American Desert (formerly, South of Lincoln). Holmquist's lastest album Carson City is fully stripped down experience, recorded in a living room with all you hear being guitar and hushed vocals weaving tales of gambling husbands, runaway daughters, troubled lovers and old run down houses that all hold fond memories. The new album continues where South of Lincoln (his former recording moniker) left off, highlighting minimal guitars partnered with soft vocal melodies.

Tycho

"Tycho's Scott Hansen explores the warmest corners of electronic music, using well-worn vintage synths to float dreamy melodies over insistent stutters and clatters of percussion... Dive (is) a happy, bright trance, not to be avoided." 8/10 - Blurt "Dive deploys a vast array of effects, but uses them all economically, making proper use of sweet, unintelligible female crooning, synth lines that can squeal and whisper with equal impact, spacey, sub–Sonic the Hedgehog blips, understated acoustic guitar, and the soft rhythm of rolling tides. All those elements add up to a wonderfully nuanced record." 3.5/4 - Boston Phoenix "Dive could easily be your favorite record this year." - Beats Per Minute "Dive... (is) a beautiful album with an amniotic vibe." 83/100 - Filter "Tycho is worth any self-respecting electronic fan's time." 8/10 - Prefix "Tycho's Dive... (is) a comedown album for the chillwave crowd and an audiophile’s dream. It’s the album you play when it’s finally safe to use approved portable electronics, when your eyes are glued to the plane window, peering down to someone or some place you already miss. It’s all these things and one of the best electronic releases of 2011." 8/10 - Pop Matters

"Onuinu (pronounced “ON-yu-in-you”)... music falls within the vein of what has been called chillwave, or glo-fi, which is a particularly fresh and likeable sound first popularized by bands like Washed Out and Neon Indian. Drawing heavily off of 80's new-wave and synth pop for melodies." - Be Portland
